I am pleased to share that Melissa E. Mayhan, J.D., has joined the Office of Institutional Equity as our deputy associate vice president and Title IX coordinator. In this role, she will oversee the university’s compliance with laws prohibiting sex-based discrimination, as provided by the Title IX section of the federal Education Amendments of 1972.
Missy previously was senior associate general counsel in the Office of Legal Affairs. As an attorney, she assisted in the creation of OIE in 2019 and worked on issues involving Title IX compliance, sexual misconduct, civil rights and public safety.
Missy is a two-time graduate of Ohio State, having earned both her bachelor’s and law degrees here. She joined the university as an employee in 2008 after serving the Ohio Department of Public Safety as associate legal counsel and the City of Columbus as an assistant city attorney.
Please join me in welcoming Missy to her new role and in thanking Molly Peirano, who served as interim Title IX coordinator over the past year. Molly will continue her duties as our director of education and engagement.
